The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni has highlighted to the failing ANC and its coalition partners the importance of adhering to Supply Change Management (SCM) processes in ensuring effective service delivery, value creation and socio-economic transformation.
This, as the ANC continues to award companies based outside the boundaries of the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) with contracts. The latest report brought to council indicated that only 31% of CoE based companies were award contracts, while a staggering 69% of companies based outside the CoE were awarded contracts.
This is of concern considering the huge unemployment rate of over 31% within the ANC and coalition-led Ekurhuleni. But yet, the City continues to ward businesses outside our borders instead of building and uplifting local businesses.
The majority of businesses award these contracts were tasked with maintenance issues, like maintaining and repairing sewerage pipelines. As the DA, we question the ANC and its coalition partners! Are there no qualified and companies within Ekurhuleni’s borders capable of delivering these services?
Ekurhuleni sets itself a target of award 70% of contracts to CoE based companies. The 31% reality showcases the complete lack of political will and leadership to empower Ekurhuleni businesses.
Under a DA-governed municipality, we would focus on skills and business upliftment within Ekurhuleni. Our youth need a space to thrive and grow, we need to empower them with opportunity. Under a DA government this is exactly what we would do.
