The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) is pleased to announce that the Alberton Swimming Pool will officially reopen to the public today, Tuesday, 3 September 2024.

The pool has been closed since September 2022 due to malfunctioning water pumps, an inadequate chlorine supply, unkempt surroundings, poor water quality, and maintenance issues such as broken bathroom doors.

This was because of the Sports, Recreation, Arts, and Culture Department’s (SHRAC) inability to plan, conduct routine maintenance and take accountability for the running of this facility.

Ward 37 Committee Member, Tina Heunis, and I have persistently raised issues with the department about sewer overflows, water leaks, and other factors impacting the pool’s operation.

Residents of Alberton and surrounding areas will benefit greatly from this facility in the coming summer months.

The DA would like to extend our gratitude to Tina Heunis for her commitment to this cause. This highlights the positive impact collaboration between Ward Councillors and Ward Committee Members have for residents in wards.

We remain committed to ensuring that facilities for the public are well managed and maintained to the highest standard.
