Alberton deserves better services and accountability

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Alberton calls on the ANC-led coalition* government in Ekurhuleni to start rewarding ratepayers in Alberton by delivering good and quality services.
Over the past two months, residents of Alberton continued to be victims of poor services at the hands of an uncaring ANC and its coalition partners*.
On average, residents in Alberton experience power outages every weekend and refuse is never collected as per the City’s schedule. The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) is failing its ratepayers, who struggle daily, to get even the most basic of services delivered by the City. Yet, the ANC and its coalition partners* did not hesitate to increase electricity and water tariffs by over 14% and 8% respectively.
Despite the MMC of Water, Sanitation and Energy, Cllr. Tiisetso Nketle, acknowledging residents of Alberton for being among the top rate-paying areas in the city, her department has continued to deny resident’s their money’s worth of quality services.
The DA is outraged by the CoE’s incompetence, which continues to burden and frustrate residents. During the absenteeism of the ANC-led coalition government, it has been the DA that stood up for residents; working tirelessly to assist residents, wherever possible. As the DA, we submitted a petition to Council on the 26th of May, calling on the CoE to give urgent attention to continuous power outages in Ekurhuleni.
Residents of Alberton and Ekurhuleni at large deserve a caring government that will ensure that residents enjoy the best of the services offered by the municipality.
The dismal failure to deliver basic services highlights the incompetence of the ANC and its coalition partners, and the DA will continue to force the uncaring ANC-government to rectify this matter.
Under a DA-led government, residents will enjoy an efficient and responsive administration that ensures effective and responsive service delivery.
