Proof beyond a reasonable doubt that the ANC cannot provide even a relatively small sports facility to deserving communities.

This is confirmed by answers from the Council following questions from the Democratic Alliance in the City of Ekurhuleni.

In the answers provided to thus, the now removed Eff Mmc For Community Services: SRAC, Health And Social Development — Clr Bridget Thusi answered as to why all work stopped on site of the Alra Stadium, she responded “The work stopped due late payments of the service providers. At the time the contractor left the site in January, they had not received any payment in the 2022/23 financial year.

This was such an embarrassment for the department that the project manager did not even notify me that the contractor abandoned the site most likely as early as November 2023 and not January 2024 as stated by the department MMC. It should be noted that the department project managers are responsible for ensuring contractors perform according to municipal standards and should constantly monitor progress and intervene when contractors are not paid.

The non-payment of contractors while the ANC / EFF coalition was in government is appalling and the blame lies with them.

The EEF MMC stated that the new anticipated completion date of the Alra Park stadium would be at the end of May 2024. Considering the dismal state of the City’s finances thanks to the former ANC / EFF coalition government this is highly unlikely.

My plea to Alra Park residents is to have a look at municipalities where the Democratic Alliance is in government, where we govern the municipal finances are managed well and quality infrastructure projects are delivered to communities.

As the ward councillor, I will continue to monitor the department’s performance and continue to drive Ward 88 IDP priorities however under a new possible ANC government in Ekurhuleni this is unlikely.
