ANC-EFF Coalition leaves capital projects in limbo

The ANC-EFF coalition running the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) are not able to complete any capital projects in Ward 88, Nigel, despite these appearing on the Integrated Development Plan (IDP).
When questioned why there will be no capital investment to improve the lives of residents — they simply say that there is no money.
Not only are capital projects such as the 5 Mega-litre ALMAC water reservoir, the Alra Park Library and the Alra Park stadium upgrade on hold, none of the five ward IDP priorities have been budgeted for in the 2024/25 Medium Term Revenue Expenditure Framework.
The identified Ward 88, Nigel IDP priorities are:
· Rehabilitation and fencing of Alra Park wetland A21F including areas across Alra Park clinic to be developed as a public park;
· Rehabilitation and reconstruction of the entire Nigel storm water canal from the R42 through Nigel to the Blesbokspruit;
· Completion of all maintenance and refurbishment work on the interior and exterior of the Nigel Town Hall;
· Tarring of various unsurfaced roads in Alra Park, Mackenzieville, and Visagie Park; and
· Rehabilitation and upgrade of the John Voster Sport Stadium.
Because the above IDP priorities are not budgeted for, no new capital projects — such as the re-construction and upgrade of the Nigel central swimming pool, refurbishment of the Jim Fouche sport grounds, and construction of speed calming measures along Springs Road will be done until the projects currently on hold have been completed.
It is evident that the ANC-EFF coalition is not able to prudently manage the City’s finances. Their inability to govern has a negative impact on the Ekurhuleni’s residents.
We will continue to drive the mentioned projects on behalf of Nigel residents. and ensure that this Doomsday Coalition is held to account.
