The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Brackenhurst and Brackendowns is appalled to learn that the ANC-led coalition City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) has not responded to a petition, which was submitted to council on 31 January 2020.
With the reopening of schools on 15 February, this matter is even more crucial to address.
Having approached the DA regarding the need for a speedhump near the school in McBride Street, residents and parents continue to wonder when their request will be addressed as safety for learners remain of the utmost importance.
Following several consultations with the DA and CoE, the school was advised that in order to address their concerns regarding the safety of school children posed by the speeding motorists along McBride Street, they needed to sign a petition.
This was done with the help of the DA and the advice from the Roads Department in order for them to put up a speedhump as yet, the issue is yet to be attended to.
The DA believes that this is poor governance by the ANC coalition-led city to take more than a year to respond to a simple request by the residents, who simply want to make the roads safer.
As speeding vehicles continue to race along the street, putting the lives of children and pedestrians in danger. The DA wonders what will it take for the ANC and its coalition partners to stop, listen and attend to the issue raised by the residents in the city.
While the residents of Brackenhurst and Brackendows know they have a dedicated DA to respond to service delivery issues, imagine what the state of the city would be if the caring DA had been a governing party in Ekurhuleni.
It is time for Real Hope and Real Change, Now!
