ANC-led Ekurhuleni’s latest Property valuation roll Highlights uncaring attitude towards residents

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni has been inundated with calls and complaints from property owners across the ANC-led City of Ekurhuleni (CoE), highlighting their concerns and frustrations regarding the latest valuation roll.
As the DA, we find it totally unacceptable that the ANC and its coalition partners can merely slap residents with ridiculous proposed property prices, with some experiencing an increase of 100%.
We have tirelessly been in contact with officials demanding answers, as we share the frustrations of property owners across the City.
It is inexcusable that the ANC coalition-led City hides behind the defence that contractors conducted the valuation for the new period — 2021–2025.
Compounding the issue is that many residents have tried to access the valuation roll site, however it continues to crash. The DA has demanded that the valuation roll objection forms be made available online urgently, for residents wanting to object. The City Manager, Dr Imogen Mashazi, has confirmed that these forms will be made available by Monday, 8 March 2021. We encourage all residents, who believe they have been unfairly evaluated to lodge their objection.
It’s intolerable that due to the ANC and its coalition partners poor planning and governance, the residents and businesses must once again bear the brunt of this failing administration.
In this deteriorating economy, with minimal service delivery occurring across the City, residents are now being told to pay double what their homes are worth! The errors on the valuation roll site are utterly appalling.
The DA has launched an enquiry into how this roll was compiled; as it is not a true reflection of property values.
As the DA, we hear the communities concerns and frustrations and we stand with you. The DA is the only party that can bring meaningful change to the City of Ekurhuleni. We will continue to fight for the residents, businesses and communities.
