Crystal Park Clinic left to fall apart

The City of Ekurhuleni has failed patients who are forced to make use of inhumane facilities at the Crystal Park Clinic.
There is only one functional toilet for the over 200 patients who make use of the clinic daily.
No women’s toilets were operational, nor were the toilets for disabled patients. Only one of the men’s toilets is fully operational.
Addition, the following issues were identified upon inspection of the clinic:
- Non-functioning UV lights which are supposed to protect patients from getting infected.
- The nappy changing room toilet does not work.
- Two of the three geysers work while water continues to pour through the overflow of the non-functioning geyser, and this has resulted in black mould.
- Many of the doors inside the clinic can no longer shut nor lock as they have not been repaired after a robbery.
- The security cameras are not working.
- Installed water tanks do not work.
- Water seeps into the walls as it does not runoff the roof when it rains and has resulted in structural damage.
Despite these issues being reported, the City has failed to attend to any of these matters.
The ANC-EFF coalition is happy to allow patients to suffer the indignity of making use of sub-standard, unhygienic facilities.
The DA will pose questions to the City in Council as well as to the MEC for Health, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
We will continue to fight to ensure that the facilities made use of by our people are of the highest standard.
