On 1 September 2022, the Councillors of Ward 25 and Ward 24, Cllr. Pieter Henning and Cllr. Nicola da Silva were alerted to the low water pressure in Fairleads, Slaterville and surrounding areas.

The Water and Sanitation Department was swiftly contacted by the councillors and a team was dispatched to the pumpstation to check that it was operational. On arrival they found that the pumpstation had been broken into and extensively vandalised.

The Department is currently in the process of repairing and replacing the vandalised equipment and a criminal case has been opened with the South African Police Service.

In the interim, water tankers will be provided for the duration of the pumpstation not being operational.
