Date: 30 September 2022
Release: Immediate
Note: The following statement is a speech that was delivered by DA Councillor in Ekurhuleni, Cllr. Tebogo Masenya , during an Ordinary Council Meeting held on the 29th of September 2022.
Ke ya Leboga Mr. Speaker
All protocol observed
Mr. Speaker whilst the site visits are necessary and legislated mechanism of effective governance and they must be welcomed by all and sundry, however it is of utmost importance that reports emanating from such visits be honest ,without bias and not influenced by politics. The motive and integrity of this reports must not be questionable.
It will be hypocrisy of the highest order to give impression that systems and service delivery was the best in the previous term and all the problems started 10 month ago when the Multi-Party Coalition was elected. Current problems were inevitable and inherited ,and the coalition is working hard to find solutions.
It is disingenuous to attribute the backlog on the approval of the indigent application to late appointment of field workers. As compared to the last term, the appointments were done much earlier. However, we must admit that operational systems must be improved to ensure efficiency.
Mr. Speaker, we must also not speak with forked tongues when reminding officials that they are employed to service the residents of this City and nothing else. They owe their allegiance and loyalty to the residents not to politicians or political parties. There must be consequence management for those officials who are not doing their work because they are part of the problem.
I thank you Speaker
Cllr. Tebogo Masenya
