The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni calls on the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) and the Lakefield Residents, facing severe community unhappiness due to a set of boom gates.
At the very core of this issue lies the CoE’s inability, and apparent unwillingness to address issues faced by residents and residents’ associations. This is an issue shared by both residents and public representatives alike.
The DA has engaged the:
- Mayor;
- Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible; and
- The department
To date, we have received an email from the mayor’s secretary acknowledging receipt of the email and complaint itself. Beyond that, there has been radio silence.
Access control is often a contentious issue, as it may be viewed as illegal or In contravention with bylaws. We call on the municipality to urgently address the incompetence that has made its way into its departments, as their failures are creating volatile situations for both communities and elected public representatives.
This is yet another example of how a failing ANC-EFF-ASA Government can destroy the basics. Residents of Ekurhuleni deserve better, and the DA will continue to fight for accountability. The blame game has to come to an end. The mayoral committee has to stand up and resolve these issues.4
