Release: Immediate

Type: Media statement

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni is committed to working with the Multi-Party coalition government to address issues relating to streetlights, which have not been functioning for some time in the communities of Brackenhurst and Brackendowns.

Having discussed the matter of streetlights with the Coalition Management Committee, the DA notes the financial state the City has been left in by the previous administration.

As the DA councillor in Ward 38, I understand that due to budgetary constraints and the vast service delivery requirements across the City that streetlights may not be an immediate priority. However, our commitment to finding solutions to faulty streetlights remains a priority.

During the month of February, the DA will continue engaging the Multi-Party Coalition for solutions in getting streetlights in Ward 38 repaired, as we understand the security risk associated that non-working streetlights have on the community.

Residents of Brackenhurst and Brackendowns can be assured that the DA has their best interest at heart and will continue to work with the Multi-Party Coalition to ensure that the basic needs of security are met for our communities.

As such, the DA is committed to ensuring that residents live in a safer environment filled with great possibilities.
