DA Committed to Resolving Chrome Dust and Traffic Issues in Alberton North
By Cllr. Ivan Naidoo — City of Ekurhuleni Ward 37 Councillor
27 August 2024
The Democratic Alliance (DA) is dedicated to addressing the ongoing issues of chrome dust pollution and frequent truck breakdowns affecting Alberton North, particularly at the intersection of Radio and Union Roads.
Residents and businesses have faced significant problems due to dust from local food container manufacturers and trucks breaking down.
These issues have led to road damage, severe traffic congestion, and health hazards for residents.
In response to this issue, a comprehensive stakeholders meeting was held in May 2024, organized by TNL Training Centre.
As the Ward Councillor I liaised with the City’s Department of Environmental Resources and Waste Management to assist and requested a detailed report on the issue.
As a result, a dust control specialist was appointed to manage the dust emissions. Despite these temporary measures that were implemented, the problem has persisted.
The DA has continued to pursue the matter and has liaised with the company to look at alternative premises.
We are committed to resolving these issues and will provide updates until a lasting resolution is achieved.
