Release: Immediate
Type: Media statement
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the City of Ekurhuleni has come out strongly against the increase drug use in Tembisa.
Working closely with in the community I have notices a drastic spike in drug use as many community members continue to struggle with unemployment and high levels of poverty and inequality.
Community members have approached the DA requesting assistance to help stem the use of drugs in communities as people continue to lose loved ones to drug use.
As Democratic Alliance Ekurhuleni, we call upon EMPD and SAPS to treat the issue of drug dealers with the urgency it deserves. The community knows who these drug dealers are and the community is willing to work with the law enforcement agencies to ensure the flushing out of these rogue characters from our communities.
The DA calls for current government to adopt the LDAC muti-party initiative which was started to address societal issues like this.
