DA Councillor Congratulates Resident on reaching the Top 4 in the Top 16 Youth-Owned Brand Awards

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ward 31 would like to congratulate Marcia Monareng, a young businesswoman, community development activist and resident of Leachville, who has made it to the Top Four in the service category at the Top 16 Youth-Owned Brands Awards, hosted by Standard Bank. From 2513 nominees, Marcia’s company, Millennial Mindset Media was shortlisted to the 64 and is now in the top 4 in the service category. Millennial Mindset walked away with 2 awards for the Most Recognized Business on Social Media and for the Best Campaign at the (SASMA) South African Social Media Awards in November 2022.
In 2023, Millennial Mindset Media launched its Nonprofit organisation called Millennial Mindset Foundation which provides a wide range of courses and training programs that are designed to equip individuals with the skills they need to thrive in the digital economy. From basic digital literacy to animation and basic computer skills, our courses are designed to meet the needs of learners at all levels.
As the Councillor in the ward, I am proud to see young people from Leachville making a name for themselves in the business world. The digital economy provides vast opportunities for young people to learn and grow. This largely remains untapped because of a lack of access to digital resources and the internet in our communities. It is exciting to see that young people like Marcia are succeeding in this space and that they are able to impart valuable knowledge and skills back into our communities that will help young people become self-sufficient and grow in the digital workforce. Digital mobility is increasingly important given the current youth unemployment pandemic in our Country.
More than one out of every four South Africans are unemployed. Around four out of every ten South Africans live below the poverty line. South Africa remains one of the most unequal societies in the world and we are not achieving the levels of economic growth required to change this picture.
There are many constraints to growth in our country but underpinning them all is the fact that too many South Africans are left out of the economy and are unable to make a contribution to driving growth.
Achieving inclusion is, therefore, the DA’s main prescription for driving job-creating growth. To ensure that more South Africans can participate in the economy and are able to enjoy the individual empowerment associated with participation, the government must create an environment where job-creating growth is possible. Like Marcia, the government must break down the barriers to growth and provide opportunities where young people are able to participate effectively in the economy.
