The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Brackenhurst and Brackendowns is disappointed by the ANC-led coalition* City of Ekurhuleni’s failure to adequately address residents’ safety concerns. The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) rejected a petition to erect a speedhump near Revival City College in Brackenhurst.

Not only did the Department of Roads take more than a year to respond to the said petition, but they also failed to address the motivation of the request adequately. It appears that throughout the year, the Department of Roads only visited the site only once, and at the best controlled time of the day.

The Department argues that in the mornings the school has made provision to allow for better flow of traffic. However, having spoken to affected parties, the DA can confirm that the situation has not improved.

Having approached the DA regarding the need for a speedhump near the school in McBride Street, residents and parents continue to wonder when their request will be addressed as safety for learners remain of the utmost importance.

It saddens the DA that the ANC-led coalition government has been ignored this pressing issue for over a year. Furthermore, the Roads Department has neither worked diligently to address this matter, nor has it given it the attention and urgency it requires.

The ANC-led coalition Ekurhuleni government continues to hide its head in the sand, trying to avoid matters that affect the residents most, while communities are anxious about their safety.

The DA believes that the Department of Roads has not adequately addressed this petition and we will be writing to the department for this matter to be reconsidered.

The DA is committed to finding solutions that help enhance the freedom of all residents. The residents of Ekurhuleni deserve so much better than the ANC-led Coalition government, it is time for Real Hope and Real Change, Now!
