The Democratic Alliance in Daveyton has been alerted to the assertion that ward councilors in Daveyton refuse to assist residents, stating that ‘The ANC is not in power’ and that residents should go speak to the DA.

Whilst we welcome the surrender of power from the ANC to the DA, we would however like to correct those ward councilors on their feeble attempts at avoiding accountability.

In the DA, we operate from the perspective that ward councilors are elected to serve all the residents in a ward, not just their specific voters, regardless of whether not the ward councilor’s party is governing. That is part of the DA difference.

Residents should not be reliant on ward councilors who see their job as relevant only when their party is in power but should take comfort in the fact that a system is in place to resolve service delivery issues without the ward councilor.

As the DA, we would like to encourage residents to take advantage of this system, which includes reporting the issue to the City of Ekurhuleni call centre on 086 054 3000, on the My COE app (available on the play store) , or at their nearest Customer Care Centre.

In all instances residents should ensure that they receive a reference number, which they can send to a DA councilor for escalation.

Residents can find the contact details of their local DA councilor on the website below: https://www.da.org.za/our-people/ward-councillors-map
