Release: Immediate
Type: Media statement
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni calls on residents of Ward 110 in Daveyton to refrain from illegal dumping that is degrading the community. Illegal dumping contravenes the environmental by-laws of the Metro and creates an unsanitary environment in which we reside.
Waste removal levels have improved across communities under the Multi-Party Coalition; however, resources have been stretched thin following the poor state of the Waste Department under the previous ANC-led administration. In this regard, the DA calls on residents to use the following facilities to dispose of their waste.
- Benoni Solid Waste Depot
- Northmead Minigarden disposal site
- Cloverdene Minigarden disposal site
- Actonville Recycling facility
- Wattville Recycling facility
In addition, we encourage residents to do their part and report incidents of illegal dumping to 0860 543 000
Illegal dumping is not only an eye sore for residents, but poses a major health and safety issue due to the vermin and mosquitos they attract. It is thereby imperative that residents join forces with the Multi-Party Coalition to put an end to illegal dumping for the betterment of our communities.
