The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Brackenhurst and Brackendowns hosted a virtual service delivery meeting on the 19th of August 2021, where residents were invited to attend.
During the said meeting, the DA provided feedback to Ward 38 residents on the party’s success in ensuring better services in the area. As the DA, we have displayed that only a DA-led Ekurhuleni that can deliver services efficiently and effectively.
When the current political term started in 2016, numerous service delivery issues in Ward 38 were outstanding from previous years. Among these included several roads needing urgent resurfacing, the Brackenhurst Library and Clinic needing refurbishment, as both structures needed upgrades on the roof.
As the DA, we are proud that we have persistently drove these issues and most of the outstanding issues have been attended to. Furthermore, it was through DA intervention that the Brackenhurst Mobile Clinic became operational within the first five months of the term. With the mobile clinic operational, this means that more people have closer access to healthcare in their area.
The DA continues to make strides in addressing sewer infrastructure issues that continue to plague residents. While this continues to be an outstanding issue, the DA has, on behalf of residents, highlighted constant sewer overflow issues with officials and through Council processes.
More recently, the DA has submitted a request on behalf of the residents of Brackenhurst and Brackendowns for the ANC-led Coalition* government to prioritise funding the upgrading of the sewer system in the area. Unfortunately, the ANC and its coalition partners did not heed the DA’s call.
Even with the ANC-led coalition government’s incompetency, the DA has proved over the five-year term that it is in touch with residents and their needs. The DA continues to prioritise the functionality of streetlights in the area.
It is the view of the DA that faulty streetlights compromise the safety of residents.
Residents have reported, on previous occasions, how they have escaped near hijacking incidents as a result of streetlights being faulty.
The DA remains committed to increasing its efforts to ensure the residents of Ward 38 have a good service delivery story to tell. While having to deal with the ANC-led coalition governments’ shortfalls, the DA believes that ratepaying residents of Brackenhurst and Brackendowns deserve better services.
The DA is committed to empowering residents by creating an environment for delivering better services in Ekurhuleni.
