Release: Immediate

Type: Media statement

The Democratic Alliance (DA) Ward Councillor for Ward 31, Cllr. Simangele Sabe, is pleased with the road and pothole repairs currently taking place in Dal Park and van Dyk Park.

As the Councillor for the ward, I conducted a site inspection of the projects over the past week to ensure that the work done by the contractor is of appropriate standard and quality.

These repairs will bring significant relief to residents and motorists, especially with the ongoing torrential rainy weather experienced across Gauteng over the past few months.

This is the third road repair initiative taking place in the ward for the term. In October and December 2022, numerous roads were resurfaced and patched in van Dyk Park and Tamboville.

Since being elected as the councilor for the ward, I have prioritized pothole and road repairs in the ward as it poses a danger to residents and causes significant damage to their vehicles.

I am therefore very grateful that months of hard work are finally showing results. Residents can now rest assured knowing that our roads are receiving the attention it deserves.

I furthermore would like to thank the residents of van Dyk Park and Dalpark for their patience. I know that it hasn’t been easy given the challenges of waste removal, load shedding, power, and water outages in the ward.

Things are, however, slowly picking up, and with the passing of the adjustment budget in the upcoming February Council Meeting, more improvements will be seen across the City.

We now eagerly await the budget allocations for streetlight repairs and the maintenance of parks and cemeteries as these are issues of concern that have been raised by residents on numerous public and social platforms in the ward.

In the interim, we would like to welcome the progress being made on road and pothole repairs.

It confirms the strides being made by the Multi-Party Coalition’s Back to Basics programme in improving service delivery across the City.
