Last week Saturday, the Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ward 38, joined community members to paint the Bracken Library in Ekurhuleni.
Together with members of the Friends of the Library, the DA helped with the painting of two offices and the outside wall where the signage is.
This initiative was introduced following a recent site visit where the DA identified several requests made by the Friends of the Library and the Chief Librarian. Among the issues raised was the look of the signage.
Giving the library a facelift would not have been possible were it not for the involvement of the security company, 4th Dimension Security who approached businesses on behalf of the ward councillor in sourcing equipment required to make the day a success.
The DA applauds the community for coming together in giving the library a much-needed facelift and encourages residents to keep getting involved in beautifying the area. Furthermore, the party commits to continue to partner with communities in revamping facilities which are used by the public.
It was clear after the event that when a community stands together, we can overcome many of the challenges we face. Spaces such as the library should inspire hope and give us pride when we visit, it is ultimately up to us to take ownership of how the facilities we use look like.
The DA remains committed to ensuring council facilities such as libraries are looked after, and we will continue to partner with various organisations in ensuring we better the state of the community.
