Release: Immediate
Type: Media statement
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the City of Ekurhuleni, has today, lodged a request for a full investigation into the R2 Billion Security Tender at the office of the Public Protector.
In a dossier submitted to the Public Protector, the DA raised our concerns over the short period in which the tender was awarded to 10 service providers as well as alleged political interference.
Further concerns were highlighted that certain security companies awarded the tender in the City of Ekurhuleni already have allegations of being awarded irregular tenders in other municipalities in Gauteng.
As the DA, we will not allow the finances of the city to be abused and mismanaged by political parties while residents and communities cry out for basic services. Under a DA-led City of Ekurhuleni, we took a firm stance against fraud and corruption and reported any allegations of corruption to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) as well as undertook internal investigations.
As a party of law, we are serious about stoping corruption and will regularly engage with the Public Proctor’s office on this matter.
It is time to put the residents first! We cannot allow the funds of the city to be pilfered by the politically connected.
