Following the latest Integrated Development Plan (IDP) review held in October, the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the City of Ekurhuleni is pleased to see that the review falls in line with commitments made in 2021, ahead of the Local Government Elections.
At the beginning of the term, the DA has always identified the upgrading of the sewer system and road infrastructure as two of the main service delivery priorities to be addressed in the 2021–2026 term of office.
In line with this commitment, the DA continues to prioritise these issues, this is seen in how the Ward Committee has ensured that new streets that need attention are included in the IDP to address road infrastructure.
Furthermore, the DA is pleased to see that the ward committee continues to relentlessly prioritise the upgrading of the sewer system. It is noted that it is only now that the Water and Sanitation department is starting with the design work to upgrade the system. The DA will continue to lobby the municipality to allocate funds to address this ongoing service delivery issue.
As part of the IDP, the DA is glad to see that the ward committee has included the request for street cameras that are designed to monitor traffic infringements in the ward. This is done in line with the safety priority as identified at the start of the current term. With numerous concerns raised by residents around traffic infringements, the DA found it necessary to include the priority as one of the important areas to focus on.
The DA has since 2018 championed the transfer of the property where the Brackendowns Police Station is located to the ownership of the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure to allow South African Police Services (SAPS) to build a permanent station. It has always been the view of the DA that having a permanent police station will assist in improving safety in the area.
With the reviewed IDP, the DA continues to strive to build a ward that improves service delivery and creates a safe space for families to enjoy public parks. Furthermore, the upgrading of the Brackenhurst Clinic will also ensure healthcare services are provided efficiently.
The DA continues to be committed to ensuring services are delivered and the quality of life improves for the residents in the ward.
