Date: 12 August 2024
Release: Immediate

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the City of Ekurhuleni extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Connie Chiume who tragically passed away on 6 August 2024.

During an extraordinary council sitting, the DA paid tribute to Mama Connie, resident of Ward 91 — a true legend of the silver screen.

Despite her passing, Mama Connie remains an extraordinary ambassador of the arts, having inspired many millions during her four decades on our screens.

From portraying uThembi in Inkom’ Edla Yodwa, Stella Moloi on Zone 14, and Mamokete Khuse on the all-star soap opera Rhythm City, to her international screen roles in the Marvel cinematic universe’ Black Panther series and Beyonce’ “Black is King”, Mama Connie’s acting was par to none.

Her lifetime achievement award in 2022 from the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTA) stands testament to her greatness.

Our screens will be duller without her charisma and charm, but our lives will forever be coloured by her memorable roles.

Lala ngoxolo Mama uConnnie Chiume.
