The DA in Duduza would like to congratulate the Jobe Foundation for hosting a successful Family Fun Day in Duduza. On Saturday, 5th November 2022, I attended the first Annual Duduza Family Fun Day which was held at the Duduza Stadium.
The event was organised by the Jobe Foundation to revitalise and bring hope to the local community of Duduza. The Jobe foundation is one of only a few organisations active in the community. The foundation has headed initiatives such as the sponsoring of school uniforms, assisting families in need, unveiling a tombstone in honour of a late community leader, as well as assisting a local author to publish and launch his book about the history of Duduza. Now they have managed to organise a family fun day which was attended by Duduza at large.
The essence of the event was to bring the community together and remind residents that even though it may feel as if the community has been forgotten and neglected, the community themselves can take a stand and rebuild hope for a better future. As the PR Councillor for the ward, I welcome community-led initiatives such as this as it embodies the spirit of active citizenry and social cohesion and instil a sense of community pride.
The event had 38 activities for the kids ranging from carnival games, water slides, arcade games, face painting, and jumping castles. The township economy and small business development were at the centre of the event with local entrepreneurs showcasing their products and services through a variety of food stalls, games, and apparel. The Gauteng Provincial Department of Trade and Industries was also in attendance to engage with the local entrepreneurs, impart knowledge and provide information about how they can approach the government departments to obtain funding and other opportunities to further revitalise the township economy.
Residents were entertained with live performances from local artists such as the Duduza Serenade, Sbu Dludlu, and Mlu Mapiano and local DJ’s such as Jimmy Drums, DJ Papilion, DJ Flame Spitter, Skador Da DJ, DJ Ayeza, DJ Sthololo, DJ Nasso, and DJ the IT were also allowed an opportunity to showcase their talents. Well-known RnB and Soul DJ and National Radio Personality Mr Wilson B Nkosi was also in attendance and graced residents with his amazing talent.
This was indeed a historic event, and I am pleased as Councillor to have been allowed to be a part of it. As public representatives, it is important that we recognise, highlight, and participate in initiatives of residents and organisations that aim to mobilise community assets and builds pride in our communities. I would like to thank the Jobe Foundation for all their efforts in assisting and supporting the residents of Duduza and would like to congratulate them on successfully hosting this event. May it grow to greater heights and further enhance the local economy and pride of the community of Duduza. I am looking forward to attending the next family fun Day next year.
