Heavy rainfall and collapsing infrastructure have exposed residents of Ward 16, Ekurhuleni, to a tidal wave of raw sewage leaving many homes flooded in filth.

In Kempton Park X2–4, Aston Manor, Nimrod Park, Allen Grove and Glen Marais, residents have experienced effluent bubbling up into their homes.

This problem is exacerbated by stolen manhole covers allowing litter from the streets to clog the sewer lines.

Many internal sewer systems are improperly connected to the stormwater network, and Ekurhuleni’s aging sewer network is unable to manage the volume of waste from these households.

It is imperative that the Municipality allocates funds in the adjustment budget for an urgent upgrade of sewer infrastructure.

I have committed to making the upgrade of the sewer network in Ward 16 my top priority in the Ward IDP.

The DA will continue to fight to ensure residents receive the services they deserve.

The DA is the only party committed to building a capable, people-centred municipality for all.
