DA reminds residents of 18 June 2021 Property Valuation Roll dispute deadline

Date: 14 June 2021
Release: Immediate
Type: Media statement
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni would like to remind residents that the deadline to dispute the recent Municipal Property Valuation is this Friday the 18th of June 2021.
The City of Ekurhuleni’s contentious property valuation roll has been criticised as being largely flawed with some residents seeing the value on their property more than double, with others seeing unrealistic decreases in the value of their properties.
As such, the DA launched a people-driven petition which sought to petition the City Manager, Dr. Imogen Mashazi, to request the MEC responsible for Local Government in Gauteng, MEC Lebogang Maile, to extend the current valuation roll by 12 (twelve months) to 30 June 2022.
We remind residents that signing our DA petition is not an officially lodged objection against the valuation roll, but rather a request to extend the current valuation roll until 30 June 2022, to allow the failing ANC and its coalition partners’ time to re-evaluate and correct the valuation roll.
We urgently encourage all residents to check the Valuation roll here: http://valuations.ekurhuleni.gov.za:8082/ and officially lodge their objections against a relevant property.
The objection forms are available here: https://www.ekurhuleni.gov.za/residents/forms/valuation-objection-forms.html
As the DA, we will continue to challenge the flawed process used by the ANC and its coalition administration. The entire property valuation roll process should be condemned in the strongest terms as it has been flawed from the onset.
The flawed valuation roll process is indicative of the governance failures of ANC and their coalition partners* in the City over the past five-years. The DA in Ekurhuleni will continue to stand by our communities and ensure that resident’s rights are upheld in ensuring fair value of property for residents and businesses in the Metro.
