The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Brackenhurst and Brackendowns is committed to ensuring that road infrastructure is prioritised over the next few years. This will be done in line with the commitment the DA made to residents at the beginning of the current term of office.

Since the beginning of the political term, the DA has, on behalf of residents, raised issues regarding the need to resurface and reconstruct several roads in the Ward. Up until this point, the biggest challenge hindering progress in improving road infrastructure has been a result of budgetary constraints.

The DA in Ward 38 will work hard to ensure that an adequate amount from the R370-million allocated to the Roads and Stormwater Department for repairs and maintenance as set out in the 2022/23 budget, will be made available for pothole repairs in Ward 38.

The DA believes that by adequately maintaining the road infrastructure in Brackenhurst and Brackendowns, road safety will increase and pride will be restored to residents in their area. We may not get all roads resurfaced in a single year; however, the aim is to at least ensure that 80% of the roads that need upgrading are upgraded during this term of office — a significant improvement following the mismanagement of the Department in the previous administration.

To achieve the target we are setting for ourselves we will work with the community as well as the Departments of Roads and Stormwater in finding solutions that will work for the benefit of all residents in the area.
