Release: Immediate
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni welcomes the passing of the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) Child Care Centre Policy, 2024, which will dramatically improve the lives of learners attending Early Childhood Developments (ECD) — particularly those in informal settlements.
In 2017 the DA brought a motion to Council, addressing the lack of inclusion of ECDs in informal settlements, recommending that the City Development Department needed to amend their policy to give ECDs in informal settlements the opportunity to apply for formalisation.
This amended version, championed by the DA, will ensure that ECDs in informal settlements will now be able to apply for grants or get formal training from the provincial government.
These amendments will also ensure that there is monitoring and evaluation of ECD’s across Ekurhuleni, closing the door on mismanagement.
By planning for the future, we will create a stable foundation not only for our children but also for our country.
It is imperative that this policy is implemented timeously and becomes more than just a box-ticking exercise.
The DA believes it is imperative that we set a stable foundation for our children from a young age.
