The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Brackenhurst and Brackendowns wants to ensure that Kalkoentjie Park can host families and residents, just like Jackson Dam is able to do so.
Having welcomed the upgrading of Kalkoentjie Park back in 2019, the DA wants to make sure that the park fulfils its true potential. At this stage, although the park does have braai facilities, a concern is that without taps and ablution facilities, residents cannot freely make use of the park. As a result, this opens a door for the park to be used by those seeking to take part in unsavoury behaviour.
It is the view of the DA that parks must promote community safety while creating safe spaces. For this objective to be realised, parks such as Kalkoentjie Park need to attract families and good residents to make use of these areas.
To achieve this objective, the DA will be engaging with the Parks Department to lobby them to put up ablution facilities and taps at the park. Furthermore, we will ensure that security at the park is tightened to ensure that residents are kept safe. This will also be done by ensuring the upgrading of the park is included in the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) of the area.
Residents turn to places like Kalkoentjie Park to relax, take in some fresh air and connect with nature. In this regard, the conservation of the City’s parks is a moral and ethical imperative.
The DA is committed to ensuring that residents live in a safer environment filled with great possibilities.
