DA to take Snake Road and R23 Traffic Issue to the Provincial Legislature
Joint Statement by Cllr. Annette Verster and Cllr. Michael Waters — DA Councillors in Ekurhuleni
Date: 31 January 2024
Release: Immediate
Type: Media Statement
The Democratic Alliance is taking the removal of traffic lights along Snake Road and the R23 to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
It is unacceptable that commuters are forced to sit in tedious traffic daily simply because there is no will from the Provincial Government to find a long-term solution to the vandalism of traffic lights along these busy roads.
Commuters are complaining that the additional time taken to drive along these roads is anywhere between 40 minutes to an hour, which is simply unacceptable. In addition, the extra petrol costs are placing further strain on an already overstretched consumer given the current cost-of-living crisis.
Furthermore, it is unacceptable that no pointsmen have been allocated along these roads during peak hours to ease traffic flow. Instead, commuters are forced to sit in traffic that is moving at a snail’s pace.
