The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni welcomes the strides made within the City’s healthcare sector and encourages the City to do more to improve healthcare for all residents.
In Executive Mayor Ald. Campbell’s maiden State of the City Address on the 30th of March 2022, she acknowledged that the healthcare sector has been rocked by the Covid-19 pandemic, but was optimistic that collectively the City and its residents can overcome the disease through increased levels of vaccination, which is our best defence against the virus.
Encouraging steps announced by Mayor Campbell revolved around the expansion of health care services to our communities through 19 clinics being operational on Saturdays. This has had the effect of alleviating some of the queues at our facilities and thereby providing better services to our residents.
The Local Drug Action Committees (LDAC), to be launched this month, as part of the City’s strategy to combat the increasing amount of drug and substance abuse in our communities is welcomed by the DA. It is also an initiative that will strongly benefit our youth through a larger behavioural change program that pays attention to issues such as life skills, career choices, gender-based violence, HIV and teenage pregnancies. The City plans to reach 3000 at0risk youths in the next financial year.
The DA looks forward to these expanded healthcare initiatives, with a particular focus on reaching the most vulnerable in our society, which will greatly benefit the City’s residents and our broader society.
