Note to Editors: The following statement is a speech delivered by DA PR Councillor in Ekurhuleni, Cllr. Kade Guerreiro, during the Ordinary Council Meeting held on the 28th of July 2022.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni welcomes the item presented to council , on sites/portions of public open spaces for the purpose of erecting cellular masts and base stations. This initiative will see the leasing of portions of open public spaces, for the purpose of erecting cellular communication masts and base stations for a period of nine years and eleven months.
I am extremely excited as the Ward Councillor for Ward 92 to see a project of this magnitude coming to my Ward.
The project has the potential of yielding R1,2 billion in revenue for the City and will see over 150 permanent and 6200 temporary jobs being created.
This speaks directly to one of the key deliverables of the Multi-Party Coalition, “Job Creation and Investment”, where the government seeks to focus first on getting the basics right as the foundation to bringing in investment and jobs to the local economy.
This project will also see the municipality generating a total monthly revenue of R1.679 million on unused and undeveloped portions of land.
With telecommunications technology and internet penetration being key to our modern development and growth, this project will definitely go a long way in improving the lives of the residents in ward 92 and the City as a whole.
It is an important step in ensuring increased access to communications and internet technology in an ever-evolving digital world.
