The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the City of Ekurhuleni welcomes increased waste collection in the Sethokga Hostel and the Winnie Mandela Section in Thembisa under the Multi-Party Coalition Government.

Illegal dumping and a lack of waste collection were a hallmark in the area during the previous Council terms under the ANC-led coalition government, resulting in piles of unsanitary litter on common sites in the community. Under the Multi-Party Coalition Government, however, the waste collection has resumed restoring pride amongst residents in the community.

The waste collection in the area is part of the Multi-Party Coalitions ‘Back to Basics approach, ’which not only involves the actual waste collection but promotes an awareness campaign amongst residents to desist from illegal dumping and take pride in their communities by ensuring a clean and safe environment for all.

This program is an innovative mechanism implemented by the Multi-Party Coalition, which fosters cooperation between the City and its residents in the interest of creating sustainable and healthy living spaces.

The DA welcomes the initiative, which demonstrates the responsive and caring nature of the Multi-Party Coalition Government. The DA encourages residents to respect the City’s by-laws which prevent illegal dumping and call on the community to report such incidents through the Call Centre on 0860 543 000
