Following numerous oversights across the City of Ekurhuleni, the Democratic Alliance can report that the scope of burst and damaged water meters across the city is dire, and the EFF-led City does not have adequate household water meters available to replace them.

Huge water losses are occurring across the city due to damaged water meters, when contractors eventually arrive to do the repairs, they do not have water meters to replace the damaged meter. This is now a twofold revenue loss for the cash-strapped City of Ekurhuleni. Households are now using water and the city is unable to charge them for the consumption while the wasted water that has run down the street is already being charged for by the bulk water supplier. How can a “world-class” city, sustain itself and pay the supplier if it is not receiving revenue for water consumption?

Is this again a supplier not being paid for services rendered or just plain bad planning — due to no stock being ordered?

Please continue to report burst or damaged water pipes — South Africa is under severe strain when it comes to supplying water to its residents and the City needs to ensure that it has all measures in place to ensure repairs are done within the Service Level Agreement timeframes.
