EFF/ANC Doomsday Coalition Reshuffle spells disaster for Ekurhuleni Environment Department

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni is deeply concerned with the latest reshuffle of the Mayoral Committee yesterday, resulting in MMC Eunice Matloga being booted out in favour of the uninterested MMC Leshaka Manamela replacing her in the Environmental Resource and Waste Management Portfolio.
Ex-MMC Matloga is no real loss to the portfolio as under her watch there has been no movement on the reopening of the desperately needed Landfill sites in the city, various waste removal — and waste site management contractors are crying for payments after months of getting lip-service. The Grass cutting tenders are inadequate for the upcoming rainy season and the Various Parks depots in the City are still not capacitated to do tree and bush trimming in the city.
MMC Manamela had no stellar review under the Energy, Water & Sanitation portfolio where several communities were ignored when asking for intervention in water and power area outages and streetlights has still not seen attention in crime affected communities. One repost (here) on the social media platform “X” formerly “Twitter” shows the MMC’s negative attitude towards the environment, where the legitimate environmental concerns regarding the “Karpowership SA” deal in South-Africa, which was not approved by the National Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, is declared as nonsensical excuses.
The DA in the Environmental Resource and Waste Management Portfolio will be keeping close watch on MMC Manamela and continue our fight to Rescue Ekurhuleni.
