The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the City of Ekurhuleni has slammed the failing EFF-led coalition over its inability to turn around the Ekurhuleni Housing Company (EHC).

The EFF-appointed Executive Mayor had filled the 3 vacant posts of the board members, including the Chairperson, who is affiliated EFF. It is not a surprise that this board is just there to have meetings, in fact, in this first quarter the board has overspent its budget when they held a special meeting. One would expect that they would be discussing a turnaround strategy, which the DA had developed before being voted out of office by the ANC and EFF.

Revenue Collection in the quarter under review is 23%, worse than the 27% in the 4th quarter in the previous year and as reported by the Audit Committee that in Quarter 4 of the previous year, the EHC also had irregular Expenditure of R717, 483 and R688,388.

The DA recommends that the so-called ‘Peoples Government’ urgently revive the DA’s turnaround strategy for the EHC.
