The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the City of Ekurhuleni demands that Executive Mayor, Alderman Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, take disciplinary measures against Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) who fail to attend scheduled meetings at the City’s Customer Care Centres (CCC).

In response to oral questions posed to the MMC for Corporate Shared Services, Alderman Sivuyile Ngodwana, the MMC presented council with answers at odds with what transpired in meetings held at the Benoni CCC.

On more than one occasion I have personally requested the MMC for Human Settlements, Cllr Kgopelo Hollo, to attend meetings to address critical service delivery issues. Since assuming office as the MMC, Cllr. Hollo has not attended a single meeting.

MMC Ngodwana stated he had been informed by the Customer Relations Manager (CRM), that minutes existed for said meetings.

When asked for copies of the attendance register, MMC Ngodwana should have presented council with the redacted version of the register.

MMCs must be held accountable, and that accountability must be enforced by the Executive Mayor.

The lack of monthly meetings between MMCs, councillors and officials has led to heightened service delivery challenges with residents’ issues going unresolved.

The DA demands that the Executive Mayor, Ald. Xhakaza takes his MMCs to task to ensure that residents are served, and their concerns are addressed promptly.
