The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni has called on the struggling Energy department to urgently step in and to permanently restore power to businesses and industry in Alrode, Alberton.

As the DA, we have been in contact with frustrated officials who share the anger and frustration of the residents of Alrode, who have been plunged into darkness, yet again, due to failing infrastructure.

In addition to businesses and homes that are without power, the Alberton Licensing Department was also without power and unable to tackle the massive licensing backlog.

A generator has been installed on the premises of the Licensing Department, however, it has, allegedly, not been officially handed over to the department and up to a few hours ago there was no diesel available, making the generator non-operational and another symbol of this failing ANC-led coalition.

It is appalling that the ANC-led Coalition in the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) continues to fail residents and businesses in every aspect of service delivery. Many are already struggling due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, and the ANC government is not helping the dire situation by collapsing services.

It is time for a new caring government, who is ready to put people and businesses first and not hide behind the pandemic. The DA is ready to serve communities!
