Release: Immediate

The Democratic Alliance (DA) calls on the MMC for Energy, Cllr. Mzayifani Ngwenya to intervene and address this community’s power crisis without delay. The safety and well-being of our residents must be a top priority, and immediate action is required to restore a stable and reliable power supply to Tedstoneville.

The residents of Tedstoneville, Germiston have been enduring severe and ongoing power outages, which occur intermittently every day between 18h00 and 21h00.

These outages are primarily caused by an overloaded energy system, which is further exacerbated by illegal electrical connections in the area. The situation has become untenable, with power trips occurring every 15 to 30 minutes during peak hours.

This constant disruption not only places the entire community at risk but also causes significant damage to residents’ electrical appliances. Ekurhuleni’s energy infrastructure is already in a state of disrepair, and these power cuts are only intensifying the strain on the system.

Residents have repeatedly contacted the city to report the issue, and on numerous occasions, public representatives have escalated their reference numbers to the Energy Department.

Unfortunately, there has been no substantial response or resolution to the matter.

The DA will continue to fight tirelessly until this issue is resolved, ensuring that our residents are no longer subjected to the subpar service delivery of the failing ANC-EFF coalition.
