MPAC Public Hearings on Auditor General Report for Financial Year 2020/2021 in Ekurhuleni set to commence

The Auditor General (AG) Report on the City of Ekurhuleni’s Financial Statement for 2020/2021, presented at the Hybrid Council Meeting, in January, cited a shocking 13 Irregular, Fruitless and Wasteful expenditure contraventions totalling R258 198 861 — which was incurred under the previous administration.
The Public Hearings on the presentation on the AG’s Report, from each respective Department, will take place on the 15th of February (Human Resources, Energy, Health & Social Development, Real Estate and SHRAC), the 18th of February (City Manager, Finance and Human Settlements) and the 4th of March 2022 (Ekurhuleni Housing Company, The Ekurhuleni Water Care Company and the Brakpan Bus Company) at the Germiston Council Chamber.
The City’s total Irregular, Fruitless and Wasteful expenditure since the inception of the Metro in 2000, is just over R2-billion.
The Committee on Municipal Public Accounts (MPAC) will commence its work in February 2022, to interrogate the outstanding items from previous financial years and will refer any relevant 2020/21 items for investigation in order to keep the City and its officials accountable.

As the Democratic Alliance in Ekurhuleni, we are confident that the new and capable Multi-Party Coalition government will lead our City into a resurgence of accountability, transparency, and good governance to reduce any Irregular, Fruitless and Wasteful expenditure in the City in the future.
