The Democratic Alliance in the City of Ekurhuleni can reveal that almost half of the tenders award by the EFF/ANC-led City of Ekurhuleni is awarded to non-based Ekurhuleni companies.
At the recent council meeting, the DA lambasted the failing EFF/ANC Government on its failure to do business with companies within the city. 56 % of tenders have been awarded to the CoE based companies and 44% has been awarded to non- based companies. While a mere 10 percent of tenders are awarded to female businesses.
Residents and businesses in the city are struggling with tough economic conditions, which are compounded by loadshedding. Sadly, the EFF/ANC coalition are not interested in nurturing and growing the local economic and rather opting to do business with outside companies.
The DA believes more needs to be done to foster relationships with local businesses and empower these businesses in order to provide the communities of Ekurhuleni with empowerment opportunities.
