Peterfield Cemetery in appalling state under ANC/EFF Coalition

Date: 14 March 2024
Release: Immediate
Type: Media Statement
One can only describe the final resting place of loved ones laid to rest at the Petersfield Cemetery as nothing more than disgusting.
The burial sites are home to long grass, overflowing dustbins, which are hardly ever emptied, and the smell of sewer hangs in the air, caused from a sewer leak, directly impacting the Cemetery.
The entrance to the Cemetery is being maintained by a local resident, however, the forlorn guard huts and the dismal state greets loved ones visiting the Cemetery.
Surrounded by concrete pillar, which is now all but diminished through theft and vandalism by residents of the informal settlement across the way, cattle, goats and sheep have become regular visitors due to the diminishing concrete pillars. Muggings and Hijackings are also becoming the norm when loved ones visit the deceased.
There is no chance of you being able to use the ablution facilities which are in a disgusting condition. Leaking taps are found all over the Cemetery.
The uncaring EFF/ANC Coalition is not only impacting the service delivery in Ekurhuleni for Residents, but also impacting the deceased for which there is a total lack of empathy.
Despite sent umpteen requests to the relevant departments for the past 16 months, nothing has yet been done.
The DA in Ekurhuleni will be posing questions to the Department to ensure a lasting solution is found.
