Factory Fire, Spartan

The Democratic Alliance in the City of Ekurhuleni has raised concerns over yet another fire in Sebenza on Tuesday night just before midnight.

The sound of explosions from the chemical factory in Vuurslag street, Sebenza is now the fourth major fire in the area in the last nine months. This worrying occurrence begs the question of the regularity of the City of Ekurhuleni’s inspections of companies regarding their OSHACT compliance. The City has already been found wanting regarding its lack of compliance as recently discovered within the Energy Department.

The City has a responsibility to ensure that we live and work in a safe environment and it is clear that the City is neglecting its responsibility. Fires of this nature have a huge impact in that it affects jobs, economic activity and damage to the environment
