Reiger Park Clinic is back in operation following DA Intervention
by Cllr. Izelle Senol — DA PR Councillor in Ward 34, City of Ekurhuleni
Date: 10 November 2022
Release: Immediate
Type: Media Statement
The City of Ekurhuleni has lost valuable time delivering much-needed services to residents, following the passing of the Motion of No Confidence against the Executive Mayor, Tania Campbell, on the 26th of October 2022. The motion was submitted by the ANC and supported by minority parties, such as the Patriotic Alliance, Independent Rate-Payer’s Association and the African Independent Congress, with no regard for the lives of residents.
The delay in service delivery was mostly evident in areas like Reiger Park, where the community clinic was without power for weeks following the burnout of a mini-substation in the area. The problem was exacerbated by a shortage of much-needed diesel for the generator at the clinic, further depriving the community of Reiger Park of this essential service.
As the DA PR Councillor for the area, I have gone from pillar to post to get the matter resolved, but a mere two days after Executive Mayor, Tania Campbell, was re-elected, she demonstrated through leadership that the Back-to-Basics programme was alive and well, and back in full swing.
Diesel has since been delivered to the clinic so that it can resume its normal operations so that the residents of Reiger Park can access much-need health services until the mini-substation is replaced.
But in the interim, the DA will continue to monitor the situation and the supply of diesel until a permanent working solution can be found for the clinic.
The DA in Ekurhuleni remains committed to ensuring that regular, quality services are delivered to the residents of Reiger Park. We should as far as possible, safeguard our residents from the effects of petty politics. Now, more than ever, we must remain steadfast in our resolve to ensure that residents come first.
