The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Ekurhuleni reminds and encourages residents to urgently check their property valuation, as the ANC-led City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) has embarked on the re-evaluation of properties with the deadline of 18 June 2021 looming.

As the DA, we have come out in support of residents across the ANC and coalition-led Ekurhuleni and advise everyone to check their newly proposed property valuation. This as many properties across the city have seen their property value double, which will mean a hefty rates increase from 1 July 2021.

Residents are encouraged to check their property valuation here: http://valuations.ekurhuleni.gov.za:8082/

Two successful tables were held over the weekend for residents to check valuations online against current valuations. Both tables were well attended and the findings for some residents were horrific, as properties with values of +/- R3million — R5million are now valued at between R10 000 and R40 000. This is of grave concern for residents because this will influence future insurance, financing and resell values.

Residents who have not received their Section 49 Notice letters yet, must please make the effort to check the valuation online or to attend one of the information tables scheduled over the next two weeks.

Some of the valuations that were checked during the information tables have also seen some properties more than double to unrealistic values. A property of R3million increased to R7million. Residents are encouraged to submit objections. Objection form is available on the Ekurhuleni Website: http://ekuerhuleni.gov.za

As the DA, we are appalled with this response and the way the ANC and its coalition partners have handled this entire process. Most residents are completely unaware of the re-evaluation, due to Section 49 notices not delivered and incompetence from the CoE appointed Valuation Contractor

As the DA we are fighting this valuation process. Please sign the petition at: https://petitions.da.org.za/p/ekurhuleni-property-valuation-objections

The DA will never give up the fight for your constitutional rights as residents of Ekurhuleni.
