Following questions posed to council, the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the City of Ekurhuleni is frustrated to learn that the Dann Road Reservoir will only be completed in the 2024/25 financial year, placing added stress and reliance on the already overburdened water infrastructure.

The Water, Sanitation and Energy MMC, Cllr Leshaka Manamela, indicated that the project will cost around R100 million. The department will also erect a 25 mega litre reservoir and a 2 mega litre elevated tower that includes a pump station at a cost of roughly R62 million.

This Reservoir was a request from the Community Via a Petition in the year 2014 to resolve the Water issues in the Alston Manor and Glen Marais Area.

The area has been plagued with prolonged water outages, in fact, the planned water maintenance at Isando Reservoir on 27 and 28 June 2023 left some communities without water for six days.

Water is a basic human right and it is crucial that this new reservoir is completed with urgency.

The DA will continue to hold monitor the progress made and ensure accountability during the construction of the reservoir.
