Service delivery in Ekurhuleni on the brink of collapse

Release: Immediate
Responses from the MMC for Corporate and Shared Services, Ald. Sivuyile Ngodwana to written questions I posed highlight significant concerns about the effectiveness of the ANC-EFF coalitions ability to deliver services to its residents.
Despite 58 service delivery meetings held across the City’s Customer Care Areas (CCAs), MMC Ngodwana’s replies do not reflect the reality lived by Ekurhuleni residents.
His department only responds to 37.1% of queries within the Standard Service Delivery time raises serious questions about its operational integrity.
Even this low figure may be inflated as there are persistent complaints that departments close calls leaving reported incidents unattended.
When questioned about the evaluation of these meetings and their impact, the MMC merely referenced the performance management plan without providing any details on how the effectiveness of these meetings is assessed.
His evasiveness emphasizes that MMC Ngodwana is not committed to transparency and accountability.
Responses to enquiries about the Ward Profiling and Technical Intervention Programs also fall short. While stating that ward profiling focuses on the government’s capacity to address service delivery issues, no specific strategies or tangibles were again provided.
Despite residents facing issues with non-functioning streetlights and numerous service delivery issues, no departmental progress was provided.
Residents of Ekurhuleni deserve a caring, well-functioning government.
We demand tangible plans that have quantifiable outcomes that will enable accountability and heads to roll should services continue to not be rendered.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) will continue to pressure MMC Ngodwana to not only acknowledges these issues, but also commit to delivering real, measurable improvements in service delivery.
