The City of Ekurhuleni has been going through service delivery turmoil following the tabling of the motion of no confidence in the Executive Mayor, Alderman Tania Campbell.
After the motion succeeded in Council, residents could see service delivery slowing down across various parts of the City.
But these political shenanigans have come at a cost. A financial cost and a cost in terms of service delivery. Solid waste removal and the supply of electricity and water were most negatively affected.
The motion put the entire metro on pause, leaving residents neglected and uncertain as to what will happen next. Now that the ANC and its proxy parties are done playing, we can finally get back to working for the residents of this fine city.
Within only two weeks after the reinstatement of the Executive Mayor, service delivery improvements are already visible on the ground. In ward 89, Thembisa, the City undertook to clear illegal dumping hotspots and address the waste removal backlog that has been piling up for more than two weeks.
Leaking water pipes were also repaired, and sewage pipes were unblocked.
We look forward to seeing continued improvements in service delivery in line with the Back-to-Basics Service Delivery Programme of the Multi-Party Government. While other parties look purely for power, positions, and publicity, the Democratic Alliance in Ekurhuleni wants to assure residents that we are driven by values and principles and that we will finish what we started beyond the challenges of politics.
