The DA welcomes progress made on the sewage upgrade programme taking place in ward 25.

Residents in East Side Manor and Pomona have been battling for years with frequent sewage blockages which cause effluent to erupt out of the drains in their homes.

Capacity constraints on the department’s side have added to the woes of residents who have patiently waited for a solution.

In response to questions posed by the DA surrounding the sewage line upgrade programme, the Water and Sanitation Department stated that

“The aim of the programme is to increase the Sewer Capacity from bulk so that the sewers from the network systems are accommodated. The sewer challenges linked to these streets (Begonia Street, Agapanthus streets, Tugela Road) will be resolved once this process is completed.”

The DA welcomes the progress made on the project. The Pomona Phase 2&3 section of the line which is linked to the Serengeti Pumpstations is set to be completed on the 30th of June 2025.

Although this is still some time off, the long-term solution to the endless and frustrating problems residents in the area face is in sight.

The DA will continue to monitor the progress of the project and keep the community updated.
